Distance: 1.2 miles RT
Elevation Gain: This trail is flat.
Season: Year-round.
Description: This easy interpretive trail takes beach visitors through the sand dune ecosystem that protects Cranberry Lake from the Salish Sea. There are interpretive signs along the way, and views of the Olympic Peninsula and Vancouver Island on clear days. My kids love to go here to play in the sand, sit among the driftwood, and watch the sunsets.
Directions: From I-5 in Burlington, take Hwy 20 west toward Anacortes. After you cross the bridge to Fidalgo Island, watch for signs for the Hwy 20 turnoff to the left/south. Follow Hwy 20 over the Deception Pass bridge, and watch for signs to turn into the main park entrance on the right. Take this road to West Beach and the end, where there is a large parking lot. You’ll need a Discover Pass to park.
