Description: A short walk through a forest thick with salal and large trees leads to a rocky coastline. Birds and seals feed and rest on the offshore islands, and strong currents flow through kelp beds. There are no safe beach areas to play, but children will enjoy looking out at the wildlife, as well as San Juan Island across the channel.
Directions: Take the Lopez Island Ferry from Anacortes. From the ferry dock, head south on Ferry Road, and then turn right on Fisherman Bay Road. Continue past Lope Village, around Fisherman Bay, and turn right on Airport Road. Turn left of Shark Reef Road, then after 1.8 miles, look for the trailhead on the right side of the street. There is parking for several cars; no permit is needed. There is a privy and some picnic tables.
