Description: Tucked away in suburban Bellingham is this sweet park. The main attraction is Whatcom Creek and the large (and smaller) waterfalls. Mature second-growth creates a shady, peaceful setting for walkers, runners, and families on bicycles. The Main Trail is wide, hard-packed gravel that makes for easy walking for little feet. Take some of the off-shoot trails to get closer to the water and more of a wild feel. You can also check out the fish hatchery with its interpretive signage. There is a playground and restrooms at the parking area.
Directions: From I-5 heading northward, take Exit 253 for Lakeway Drive. You will need to turn right as you come off the freeway, then turn left on Lakeway Drive. Continue for approximately 2 miles, then turn left on Silver Beach Rd. into the park. It is well signed. No parking passes are needed.
